This accredited qualification provides theoretical and practical training in emergency first aid techniques that are specific to infants aged under 1, and children aged from 1 year old to the onset of puberty. Learners undertaking this qualification will be able to provide support to the paediatric first aider to maintain the welfare of infants and children.
Learners will become familiar with the role of the paediatric first aider and be able to assess and react appropriately to an emergency situation, such as a child or an infant who is unresponsive, has an airway obstruction, has breathing difficulties or is suffering from shock or anaphylaxis:
This qualification consists of one mandatory unit and is typically delivered over a period of 1 day with a minimum contact time of 6 hours.
All successful students will be issued with an Emergency Paediatric First Aid certificate.
Guided Leaning Hours (GLH): 10 with a minimum of 6 contact hours
Learners are required to be 16 years of age prior to certification. It is also advised that learners have a minimum of level 1 in literacy and numeracy
- valid passport (any nationality);
- signed UK photo card driving license;
- valid warrant card issued by HM Forces, Police;
- Other photographic ID card, e.g. valid warrant card issued by HM Forces, Police, employee ID card, student ID card, travel card. In the event that a learner is unable to produce any of the forms of photographic identification listed above, a centre may accept another form of identity containing a signature, for example a credit card or a third-party representative, such as a Line Manager, Human Resources Manager or invigilator, will be accepted.
