|The Level 1 Awards in Mathematics Skills are aimed at:
Learners who are returning to learning and need to gain confidence in Mathematics skills before progressing to further study, for example, adults returning to learning on Access programmes or teacher training qualifications where there is a requirement for a specific standard of Mathematics may undertake these qualifications to develop underpinning Mathematics skills before completing the specified Mathematics qualifications required for their course.
Learners who have progressed from Entry Level Mathematics qualifications and need additional time to prepare before undertaking full Mathematics qualifications at Level 1.
Learners who achieved GCSE Mathematics at Level 1 and wish to improve their underpinning skills in Mathematics to enable achievement at Level 2 in GCSE Mathematics
The qualifications have been developed in response to the need to replace the Adult Literacy and Numeracy qualifications at Level 1 and 2. The Government agenda is that people should attain GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade A* – C wherever possible, but it is accepted that they may require stepping stones to enable them to reach that target.
There are no formal entry requirements for learners undertaking these qualifications. Learners will range from those with emerging skills in mathematics to those who are starting to apply their developing knowledge and skills to everyday situations.
